All around the world there are football codes played using an oval shaped ball.
There is Aussie Rules and the two Rugby codes-rugby union and rugby league.
In the US and Canada they have their own form of "football".
All these football codes evolved from the same game, they all grew originally from rugby,
but over time they have drifted so far apart that we don’t have anything to do with each other.
We are all related - perhaps it is time for this football "family" to have a reunion and
celebrate our commonness with a Festival of Football.
I'd love to see us compete against each other in individual events, like football kicking -
but I'd also like to see us compete every few years on the football field.
The only way to achieve that is to devise a combination code that takes a little bit from all our games
and mixes it together - no one is advantaged, we are all disadvantaged.
I have created a combination set of rules that embraces the major features of all the codes.
What do you think, are you brave enough to give it a try??
I welcome your comments and feedback.

FIELD OF PLAY 100m - 120m long, excluding a 15m End Zone at each end.
Goals 5.6m apart with a 3m high crossbar..
The field is marked at every 10m with a line running across the field. Each goal line is "zero" with the number running up towards the centre.
BALL oval shaped ball.
TEAMS 12 on the playing field, 8 interchange players
who may be swapped at any time without interruption to play.
SCORING 5 points for a try or touchdown, and one point is awarded for the successful completion of the touchdown with a kick at goal from the 30m spot.
2 points are awarded for kicking the ball between the
uprights of the goals but above the crossbar whilst the ball is in general play.
A goal may not be kicked from within the 20m arc around the goals
and set shots for "penalty goals" from infringements are taken from a "30m Spot", 30m directly out from goal. 3 points are awarded for a successful penalty goal.
GAME TIME The game is played over 4 x 20 minute quarters with no time added except in the last quarter for injury time.
START of PLAY Each quarter is started with a ruck or tip off contest at the centre between 2 opposing members of the teams. They stand in their own half, and within the 10m centre circle. No other players are allowed in this circle at the start of play.
Each team must be in its own defensive half at the start of play.
The umpire throws the ball into the air and the two "ruckmen" attempt to hit the ball to their team.
PASSING THE BALL The ball may be kicked, thrown or run with in any direction, anyhow.
TACKLING A player with the ball may be tackled by an opposing player. A tackle must be between the knees and shoulders. A high tackle in the attacking teams forward half results in the tackled player taking a penalty kick for goal, from the 30m spot.A high tackle in the back half results in the offending player being sent off for 10 minutes - without replacement, and possession is turned over.
TACKLING 2 A player who is tackled or held must break the tackle or get rid of the ball within 3 seconds. Failure to do so results in the opposition receiving possession at that point. If a group of players falls on the ball and no one is in possession, a ruck shall occur with both teams on the defensive side of the ruck contest.
BLOCKING A player without the ball may be blocked, but may not be held or tackled.
MARKING A player catching the ball on the full, from a kick, is awarded a mark.
He then has 3 seconds to play the ball in any way without being tackled or interfered with by an opponent. If he is in his own forward half, and outside his own 20m area, he may take a deliberate attempt for a field goal without interference by indicating that he intends to shoot for goal - which he must then do.
OFFSIDE There is no offside rule.
3 SECOND RULE No attacking player may stand, ahead of the ball, in his own 10m attacking area or the adjacent End Zone for more than 5 seconds. If this offence occurs the opposing team shall be awarded possession from their defensive 20m line. A player may run into the above areas to receive the ball from his other players, but may not remain for 5 seconds or more, unless the ball enters this area.A defender may wait in this area.
OUT OF PLAY The ball must be kept in play at all times. If the ball goes over the sidelines, possession goes to the team that did not touch the ball last- from the place where the ball went out of bounds. If, however, it is not possible to determine who touched the ball last, then a rugby style "line out" occurs, with the ball thrown into play by an umpire.
RE-STARTING PLAY After scoring a try or touchdown, the attacking team kicks for goal from the 30m spot to complete the try or touchdown.
Play re-starts with the opposition kicking out from the goal line.
After kicking a field goal successfully play re-starts with the opposition kicking out from the goal line.
After a failed field goal attempt, play continues from where the ball lands, or if the ball has gone into the End Zone, the opposition kicks into play.
OUT OF END ZONE If the ball goes out of the End Zone by the attacking team, the defending team kicks in from the goal line.
If the ball goes out of the End Zone by the defending team, the attacking team receives a penalty shot for goal.
FIELD GOALS An attacking team may, at any time, kick the ball at goal in an attempt to score. This kick may not occur from within the 20m goal circle area or from behind the goals in the End Zone.Play does not need to stop for this kick to occur.
PENALTY If a player is illegally infringed whilst taking a shot for goal he may be awarded a penalty. This kick is taken from the 30m spot.
A TRY A try, or touchdown, is scored by an attacking player having possession of the ball and placing the ball onto the ground with a definite downward motion. The players hand must be touching the ball when the ball touches the ground.Or, if an attacking player marks the ball in the End Zone then it is a touchdown, or try.
VICTORY The team that scores the most points wins the game.

So, football players of the World!
Are you ready for a Festival of Football to see who are the best footballers in the World?!?!?
We look forward to these future contests.
